Description

The MUSIC series were developed by Max Mathews starting in 1957 at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. It was written in assembler code and finally running on an IBM 704 located in the IBM World Headquarters in New York City, where Bell Labs rented a computer. The MUSIC II was capable of producing four voices with 16 possible wave shapes. MUSIC III allowed complex instruments and musical scores to be created. These programs have been influential in the development of computer music.
