Metal relief, drilled out of a metal block (aluminum?) by computer-controlled equipment.

algorithm: Ad hoc programming
artwork type: sculpture, computer-generated
Description

One of two early computer-generated sculptures in form of flat reliefs, done by Georg Nees and Ludwig Rase. The relief form was necessary because the available mechanical equipment was only capable of drilling in one direction.

A print of the sculpture’s image is in the collection of the V&A Museum in London.
A reproduction of the image was already contained in Nees’ doctoral dissertation (1969).
