name: Pendel-Oszillogramme
Description

The works belonging to the series Pendel-Oszillogramme [Pendular Oscillogrammes] by Herbert W. Franke are developed like described in the following. Screenprints are taken ‘from a photograph of an electronic oscillation – a type of electrical waveform. The photograph was taken by moving the camera across the screen of an analogue cathode ray tube, which is a machine for measuring electrical signal. The original photograph was part of a series of works entitled ’Pendular Oscillogrammes’, which were produced in the mid 1950s. This series was preceded by the pioneering work of American artist Ben Laposky, who had also been working with an analogue cathode-ray tube a number of years earlier.’ [V&A Collection, n. d.]
