Opened in 1913 as ‘Art Exhibiton Hall’, the building on Lorenzer Strasse was originally intended to extend the municipal art collection and provide an exhibition space for Nürnberg an Franconian artists. In 1967, the building was renames ‘Kunsthalle’. Then the direct Dietrich Mahlow, staged spectacular exhibitions, opening this space for the international art scene. In 1997, the collection was incorporated into the New Museum. Since then, the focus has been on temporary exhibitions of German and international art after 1960.
