Museums are unique because of their own collections and meeting the challenges of presenting them adequately, while also being responsible for research on art and educating the public. Additionally they must see to the preservation and maintenance of the collections as well as their expansion and growth. Besides the organization and realization of exciting special exhibitions, the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart likewise places great value on fulfilling the multitude of tasks involved in a collection that comprises over 15,000 artworks. Very recently a catalogue of the Kunstmuseum’s holdings in concrete art was published. Also the Baumeister Archive in the Kunstmuseum regularly publishes on this significant Stuttgart artist. At the same time, effective art education plays a prominent role, and the museum’s target is to reach its audience as early as possible: Besides offering numerous programs for children and youth, the museum currently has a pilot project that promotes creativity in children aged between three and six years.
