Coinciding with the opening of the LENTOS in the year 2003 and NORDICO (together with LinzGenesis) were combined into a new, conjoined organizational unit, the enterprise “Municipal Museums”.

Besides the exhibition activities, the major emphases of museum work are the maintenance and expansion of the collections, art education, the publication of collection and exhibition catalogues, and active loan exchanges with national and international partners. Other significant areas of business are the operation of the museum shops, the rental of meeting rooms, reception of the art purchases of the art advisory board of the city of Linz, and the loan of artworks to furnish properties of the city.
The Museums of the City of Linz are headed by Stella Rollig as artistic and Gernot Baounig as commercial director and are assigned to the business group “Culture, Education and Sport” of the city administration. A “management committee” serves as board of supervisors for the enterprise. Its chairman is the Speaker for Culture of the City of Linz, Vice Mayor Dr. Erich Watzl.
