The volume “INTERFACE 1: Elektronische Medien und künstlerische Kreativität” [INTERFACE 1: Electronical media and artistic creativity] documents the two first symposia of the series INTERFACE from 1990. It includes contributions by Alsleben, Ascott, Bolt, van den Boom, Bredekamp, Dudasek, Flusser, Grillo, Günther, von Huene, de Kerckhove, Kittler, Kreibich, Kriesche, Loeffler, Onnen, Orazem, Peitgen, Reck, Weinbren und Weizenbaum.

Alsleben wrote therein the article “Computerkunst – Form als ethisches Fragen” [Computer art – Form as ethical asking], but does not do any justice to the title. After participation in art put the role of the audience into question, Alsleben claims that this happens now through computer networks. He propagates to contrast the author’s role with the dialogical one. Why, however, stays unclear. Is it because the technology is there and makes it possible? Nice are the admitting hints to Alsleben’s expectations in the beginning of the 60s: he thought the computer will express his different, inner “Zumutesein” in pictures. Now for him it is about the interactivity that changes everything. Three directions: form-preserving moments (computer-graphics, CAD); media-futuristic; data-artistical (dialogical, Columbus sensation: What can you do with a computer?). The article ends in dark indication towards the “Anderweite”.
