Summary

Tomislav Mikulic is a Croatian computer Graphics pioneer who exhibited at the Tendencies 5 in Zagreb(former Yugoslavia) in 1973 at the age of 20. He had composed the First Yugoslav Computer Animation Film which had it’s premiere on 13th May 1976 in Zagreb.324

His early computer graphics and experiments in the field of animation resulted in Mikulic securing various contracts for TV advertising and weather forecasts. He won on a numerous prizes in international competitions for animated openers. These included prizes for the winter Olympics on 1984 in Sarajevo and the Eurovision Song Contest of 1990 in Zagreb. While working as a graphic Artist at Channel 7 in Melbourne he developed among other things the “Yellow line” – the line which displays the world record time during live broadcasts of swimming competitions (used for the first time during the Olympic games in Sydney 2000). 5

He presently lives and works in Melbourne (Australia).

Biography

1967 – 71 Attended the High School of Mathematics in zagreb.
1970 Learned the programming language FORTRAN at the early age of 17.
1971 – 72 Studied electrical engineering at the University of Zagreb and developed his own algorithms for Computer Graphics.
1973 Exhibited his first plotter drawings the exhibition tendencije/tendencies 5 in Zagreb.
1972 – 77 Studied art at the academy of Fine Arts at Zagreb. Created a further series of plotter drawings based upon the principles of change in geometric forms and it’s control by mathematical formulae.
1976 Exhibited videos of geometric transformations ( the first computer animated film in Croatia) at the Galerija Nova.
1980 – 1992 Directed the design department of the Croatian national television network.
1992 Emigrated to Melbourne (Australia) and worked there util 1998 for various companies in the field of animation.
1998 – 2002 Worked as a senior Graphic Artist at Channel 7 in Melbourne.
2002 onwards Worked as a multimedia designer at the Monash University in Victoria.
