This work is a selection from a large series of vases. The selection of these four vases is based on their aesthetic appeal to the artist. In the preface to his doctoral thesis, he states the following:

“The contour line of the round vases consists of a sequence of straight line segments and circular arcs. […] Experience shows, that every tenth to fifteenth exemplar of the series has ‘appeal’.“ (translated from Nees: Generative Computergraphik (reprint 2006), p. 18)
