ACCAD is a research center where graduate students and faculty from across the Ohio State University, study and conduct research in areas involving computer graphics and technological innovation.
Pioneering work was initiated in 1963 by Professor Charles Csuri in his role as a professor in the Department of Art at OSU. Working as a painter, he became increasingly fascinated with the computer and its potential as an artistic tool. In 1971 Charles Csuri proposed a formal organization, called the Computer Graphics Research Group (CGRG). The group was housed in space in the OSU Research Center at 1314 Kinnear Road on the campus. Tom Linehan (Ohio State University – OSUArts) and Chuck Csuri converted the Computer Graphics Research Group into The Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design in 1987.
