title: | Erinnerungen und Werk |
year: | 1983 |
Karl Otto Götz, the great German artist of the postwar _Art Informel _(Informelle Kunst) movement, published this autobiography shortly before his seventieth birthday. The main part comes in two volumes (Ia and Ib) and covers more than 1400 pages of the large format of 30.5 by 24 cm. The text is in German.
The two volumes boast of a total of 1544 illustrations (both his works and photographs of scenes of his life), often in color and large size. They are a great resource, directly and indirectly, the latter by various lists: the museums that possess works of his; his publications; his solo shows; his participations in group shows; a bibliography about his works (16 pages!); a name and a subject index. (All this as of 1983.)
The second volume (II) contains additions to the list of works, and reprints of his publications (theoretical essays, poetry, scientific writings). It is not clear whether this volume has ever appeared in print. – There are four other volumes, under the title Erinneringen I – IV. They cover the time up to 1999 (published in German by Rimbaud Verlag, Aachen).
