Werler, Karl-Heinz 1991. Programmierte Phantasie. Berlin:Akademie Verlag
Description

A nice monograph with the subtitle or, better, listed keywords, “Computer. Bildliche Darstellung. Bildkünstlerische Gestaltung”

Judging from the style of writing, the book was obviously written in times of the German Democratic Republic" even though it appeared in print shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union and GDR (in 1989). All formulations are overly cautious, non-inspired, skeptical and critical about the potentials of the computer which, by the end-1980s were already enormous in the world of visual art and design.

The book is richly illustrated, in black and white only. Almost all illustrations are the author’s work with a few exception only. They are the types you would expect: families of mathematically defined curves and pixel arrangements.

The book is of historic relevance only as a document of coming too late.
