Description

IBM 1130
Produced at University of Paris VIII

“Two methods were applied to visualize the color fields and transitions calculated by the computer. One method was to produce computer prints with the different colors marked by letters: “R” for red, “V” for green, “B” for blue, “J” for yellow, “N” for black, and an empty space for white.
These fields were then colored by hand. The second method used punch cards as stencils. The calculated distributions of color dots were not printed, but punched as a pattern into computer punch cards. For every basic color a series of stencils with specific frequencies and distributions was produced. Colorless punch cards were glued on a wooden carrier, the colors were added by hand using the stencils.” [Rosen, 2011]
